Peru records fall in avocado shipments
Peru's avocado exports fell 35.1% year-on-year to US$22.7 million in the first five months of 2011, market consultancy Inform@cción told website Agraria.pe.
The value equated to 13,300 metric tons (MT) with dramatic falls in exports to its main markets of Holland (-35.4%) and Spain (-69.1%), the story reported.
Sales to its other major markets of England, France and Chile were also down with declines of 14.3%, 58.1% and 38.7% respectively, the story reported.
Peru's exporters will be hoping for a change of fortunes with the Peruvian Hass Avocadoes Producers Association's (Prohass) recent campaign launch in Europe.
