U.S.: POM Wonderful responds to Supreme Court ruling against Coca Cola
California's POM Wonderful claims its win in the Supreme Court today will help benefit consumers, after it successfully sued the Coca Cola Company for marketing a drink as 'Pomegranate Blueberry Flavored Blend of 5 Juices' despite only containing 0.3% pomegranate juice.
Justice Kennedy gave the opinion that Coca Cola's practices allegedly misled consumers, and the decision against the multinational was unanimous with a vote of 8-0.
"The Supreme Court has ruled in POM Wonderful’s favor in the case of POM Wonderful v. Coca-Cola about accuracy of labeling juice or food. It is a real victory for consumers," said a POM Wonderful spokesperson in a statement given to www.freshfruitportal.com.
"The unanimous court ruling will translate into higher assurance for consumers that the labels on beverage and food are accurate.
"Focused on healthy products for healthy lifestyles, Wonderful Brands cares deeply about the health issues that consumers face today. We believe that when people better understand what they are consuming, they can make healthier and more informed decisions about what they buy."
