Vietnamese fresh produce exports surge 39% in Q1
Vietnamese fruit and vegetable exports jumped significantly in the first three months of 2018 to reach US$970 million, representing a year-on-year increase of 39%.
The result follows an ongoing trend of strong annual growth for the past few years. Now getting very close to the US$1 billion mark, exports were up 77% on the US$549 million recorded in Q1Y16 and were 2.6 times the US$372 million registered for the same period in 2015.
Figures from the General Department of Vietnam Customs did not specify markets, however for the 2017 calendar year China was the leading market by far with US$2.6 billion worth of fresh produce imports from the neighboring nation.
Japan was the second-largest market for Vietnamese produce last year with a value of US$127 million, followed by the United States with US$102 million.
