The board of Avocados Australia has appointed industry veteran John Tyas as its new CEO, following the resignation of Antony Allen in February.

Tyas has 20 years experience in the horticultural industry, including his role as industry services manager at Horticulture Australia Limited (HAL) for the past 11 years.

"We are delighted to announce Mr John Tyas as the new CEO of Avocados Australia," says Avocados Australia chairman Jim Kochi.

"John has had a long association with avocados, he knows and understands the industry very well and we are confident in his ability to guide our growing industry."

An Avocados Australia release said Tyas brought a strong background in strategic planning, R&D and marketing program development, and investment management.

Tyas also has growing experience from his family farm in Narangba, Queensland.
