Market situation in the Northern Hemisphere, week 9 – 2013 (March 1)

Avocados

In North America, there was a higher price in the U.S. for the Mexican supply. Volumes out of California remained low and concentrated in a few hands.

In Europe, the market was quiet. Price adjustments were seen for Hass from Israel. In the U.K., the market showed better movement for Hass, with stable prices for the Spanish and Israeli offers.

Blueberries

In North America, the situation was complex for Chilean blueberries in the U.S. due to quality issues. Good fruit sold quickly. Retailers began to lose interest at they look for new suppliers.

In Europe, the market experienced a similar situation, with condition and price variability. High quality loads sold well and prices were stable.

Grapes

In North America, the Flame variety faced a difficult market in the U.S. White Seedless grapes had better movement.

In Europe, the market continued to have good activity, although prices were down due to condition problems from South Africa. Limited supplies out of Chile and India moved rapidly.

In Asia, sales declined after the close of the Lantern Festival.

In Latin America, quick sales were reports for Red Globes in Colombia. In Brazil, the Chilean offer was diverse, with good movement.

Stonefruit

In North America, sales were difficult for peaches and plums in the U.S., due to condition issues from the Chilean offer.

In Europe, moderate activity was seen in generally for stonefruit. In the U.K., plums were a complicated sale.

In Asia,  slow sales were seen after Lantern Festival celebrations.

In Latin America, stable sales for stonefruits were reported in Colombia. In Brazil, the market showed pressure and price adjustments for plums and nectarines.
