Market situation in the Northern Hemisphere, week 17 – 2013 (April 26)

Apples

In North America, active markets and stable prices were seen in the U.S.

In Latin America, Colombia registered stable prices for Royal Galas. Strong sales activity was seen in Brazil for varieties in large sizes, due to less competition with local supply. Good sales activity was seen for Red Delicious and Granny Smith apples.

In Europe, price adjustments were recorded for Royal Gala imports, while sales activity improved in the U.K. The Russian market was stable.

In Asia, there was a scarce offering from the U.S. in China and bigger arrivals from Chile and New Zealand.

Grapes

In North America, the market was quiet for Chilean supply with variable conditions for the Thompson variety.

In Latin America, active sales were registered for Red Globes in Colombia. In Brazil, the market was moderate for the seedless varieties while good movement was observed for Red Globes.

In the U.K. and the European continent, variable conditions were seen for Chilean Thompsons with price differentiation. Supply was limited for Red Seedless grapes and prices were high. Active sales were seen for Thompsons in good condition in Russia, while moderate activity was registered for Red Globes.

In Asia, price adjustments were recorded for Chilean supply.

Kiwifruit

In North America, there was a moderate increase in Chilean supply to the U.S., while the Italian season was finished.

In Latin America, active sales were recorded in Brazil and Colombia.

In Europe, Chilean kiwifruit volumes were rising. Active sales were recorded with a downward movement in prices. There was a low Chilean kiwifruit presence in the U.K. with a market not yet established. Sales continued in Russia.

In Asia, good movement was recorded for low volumes of Chilean kiwifruit.

Pears

In North America, a firm market was seen in the U.S. with consistent sales.

In Latin America, strong Packham's sales were observed in Colombia with rising prices, while good movement continued in Brazil.

In Europe, the market was stable for green pears while price adjustments were registered for blush pears. Moderate sales were seen in the U.K. There was also good movement for Packham's and Abate pears in Russia.
