Peru releases avocado export forecast
The Peruvian Hass Avocado Growers' Association (ProHass) has released a bullish export estimate of 140,000 metric tons (MT) for 2013, representing a year-on-year growth rate of 40%, website Andina.com.pe reported. 
Prohass general manager Arturo Medina told the publication this growth would be driven by higher exports to Europe, which has already registered its first shipments of the season.
"Normally the statistics say that Spain and the Netherlands are the main importers of Peruvian Hass avocados, but you have to keep in mind that the Netherlands re-exports nearly 90% of its products, and Spain 50%," Medina was quoted as saying.
He said among the positive aspects of the supply deal was the growth of Germany's consumption of Peruvian avocados, with demand increasing each year.
