Australia: HAL's members vote for grower ownership
Horticulture Australia Limited (HAL) members voted overwhelmingly in favor of transitioning to a grower-owned Research and Development Corporation (RDC) at a meeting last week in Cairns. 
HAL says the vote reinforced support shown by members at the organization's forum on May 28 in Melbourne for a HAL-subsidiary to be the transition vehicle to a grower-owned RDC, rather than a government-owned transition company.
HAL chairman Selwyn Snell said in a release he was very pleased with the result of the vote and was looking forward to working with members, growers and other key stakeholders on the transition process.
"Given 95 per cent of Members voted in support of the transition, there can be no doubt that HAL and its Members are united in their commitment to transition HAL to a grower owned body. This is a very pleasing result," Snell said.
The organization said it would now focus on preparing a transition and implementation plan.
