Korea gains Mexican pear market access
After nine years of negotiations South Korean authorities have negotiated access to the Mexican pear market, media agency KBS World reported.
The story reported Korea's Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency (QIA) and its Mexican counterpart agreed to conditions for pear exports on Wednesday.
Farm that plan to export to Mexico will need to register with the QIA before harvesting the pears, with inspections required from plant quarantine officers, the story reported.
The story reported Mexican quarantine officers will also need to inspect the fruit 5-10 days before shipment, but just for the inaugural export year.
Mexico is now the third export market on the Korean pear industry's books, following in the footsteps of Chile and Peru.
