Mexican lime growers make the most of South Korean market opening
Some nine months after gaining approval for exports to South Korea, Mexican lime growers have shipped more than 300 metric tons (MT) to the East Asian country.
In a release, Mexico's Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fishing and Food (SAGARPA) said producers shipping to the market followed a demanding health and safety protocol, which had been 12 years in the making.
Veracruz accounted for the majority of volume with 273.89MT, of which 79 shipments were sent by airfreight from Mexico City and 12 were transported by seafreight.
The remainder of the fruit came from the state of Jalisco, with seven shipments taking flight from Guadalajara and 19.44MT sent by sea.
