West African link for London port to improve banana shipments
Shipping group CMA CGM will call at the London Container Terminal (LCT) as part of a service between West Africa and Northern Europe.
The new service will provide competitive transit times for the export of banana reefer containers, according to an announcement made by LCT today (August 13).
Head of commercial from LCT, Angela Black, says the weekly stop off at Tilbury forms part of the company's strategy to develop access links between the U.K. and West Africa which will be enhanced later this year with the completion of a £20 million (US$31.2 million) state-of-the-art temperature controlled refrigeration distribution center.
"I am confident that our excellent levels of service at LCT will meet with CMA CGM’s expectations," Black says in the release.
"While our current developments such as London Distribution Park, plus the build of one of Europe's largest chilled warehousing facilities at the container terminal, so close to London, means that LCT is the ideal port for UK exporters and importers looking to access West Africa."
