Albert Heijn dried cranberries named 'most misleading product of 2015'

Food Watch in the Netherlands has described a dried cranberry product as "sugar sold under the guise of a superfood".Food Watch Netherlands - cranberries 2

Since 2010 the organization has been running its Gouden Windei awards with the aim of exposing "large scale deception" of the general public, urging governments to set and enforce strict rules about product messaging.

For this year's award, 28% of the votes went to supermarket Albert Heijn's dried cranberries, marketed as a superfood and source of fiber but actually containing only 30% cranberries and 68% pineapple syrup.

Food Watch said the chain had promised to adapt the formulation of its cranberry product, which came first place in the competition ahead of Liga strawberry biscuits and Plus supermarkets' light peanut butter.
