Mann Packing recalls vegetable products over listeria fears

Mann Packing Co. has announced a voluntary recall of dozens of vegetable products in the U.S. and Canada.

The recall is a response to a notification by the FDA and the CFIA of a potential contamination with  Listeria monoctogenes.

Mann Packing says it has recalled the products in the two countries out of “an abundance of caution.”

The products are sold under brands including Del Monte, Mann's, HEB and Signature Farms.

To date, public health officials have not reported any illness associated with these products.

The recalled products have “Best If Enjoyed By” date of Oct. 11 to Nov. 16. Click here for the full list of products.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. Mann Packing will continue to work closely with the authorities to investigate the issue.
