Argentina growing region targets U.S. sweet citrus entry

The governor of Argentina’s northwest Entre Ríos province met with fruit growers this week to discuss the entry of sweet citrus varities, above all mandarins, into the U.S. market, Argentine news site Analysis Digital reported.

Entre Ríos Governor Sergio Urribarri met with the executive committee of the citrus exporters chamber of Northeast Argentina to discuss public-private cooperation measures that would allow the fruit’s entry to both the U.S. and the European Union.

The meeting follows comments from Argentina’s President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner pushing for U.S. approval of Argentine citrus while on a state visit to the United Nation headquarters in New York last month.
