Argentine fruit workers union, growers group remain at odds

A conflict between the Argentine fruit workers union and the Argentine fruit growers group continues to intensify after an agreement deadline passed on Thursday without action, local news site Quorum Digital reported.
The country’s labor ministry placed the deadline to break a three-week deadlock in salary negotiations between the two entities. The workers union is asking for a 25% salary increase for post-harvest workers.
According to the article, union leader Rubén López said that the workers are now “free to take action” and would not rule out blocking routes used by trucks carrying apples and pears.
The labor ministry will hold negotiations between the two parties on Oct. 14.
