Peruvian orange exports grow 69% in 2010

Peruvian orange showed the biggest leap in growth in the country’s citrus industry shipments from January  to August 2010 with a total 6,200 metric tons, an increase of 69% compared with 2009, Peruvian agriculture-news site Agraria.pe reported.

Citing statistics from the country’s export promotion agency Promperu, the article said that the principal market for the oranges is Holland, where  2,000 metric tons valued at US$ 1.1 million were shipped. The United Kingdom, United States and Colombia follow.

For all citrus, both dehydrated and fresh, exports in 2009 reached 45,200 tons and totaled US$ 41.5 million in value. In terms of volume, the mandarin led exports with a total of 24,800 metric tons and a value of US$ 22 million.

Russia had the largest increase in citrus receptions, growing 105% in 2010 to US$ 459,000 or 504 metric tons.
