California Giant new Chile office to aid growth, reach growers, executive says
Opening a full commercial office is an important part of U.S- based berry grower California Giant’s continued growth plan in Chile as it improves response time and grower relations, a company executive said.
According to Nader Musleh, general manager of California Giant Chile, having a full commercial presence in Chile will allow the company more agility in decision-making and cut down response times that before were delayed due to the time difference and distance from the California office.
“We will be able to have a closer connection to our growers,” Musleh told FreshFruitPortal.com
In Chile California Giant has expanded its shipments and expects to ship some 2.5 million kilograms of blueberries to the U.S. this season, Musleh added.
The added focus on Chile’s growers will also help bolster its U.S. export business to Europe and Asia by strengthening its year-round offering of blueberries for its clients.
Currently California Giant does not have plans to expand its growing presence in Chile, although it has not ruled out research and development of new varieties in the future, Musleh said. The company’s research is currently performed in California.
California Giant has offices in California, Oregon, Florida and Mexico.
