The RR1 plum, known for its long storage life and late harvesting, is being introduced in Chile, A.N.A. Chile, which manages new fruit varieties in the country, said in a statement.

The variety has yellow pulp and can be harvested toward the end of the growing season, the statement said.

The tree flowers abundantly in the second week of September. The fruit has very good firmness and has an excellent post-harvest storage life, lasting up to 50 days at 32 degrees Fahrenheit, developing a red pulp as it matures.

With respect to production, with a density of 1,250 plants per hectare, and assuming 250 fruits per plant, the RR1 has a projected productivity of 39,000 kilograms per hectare.

This is “one of the latest plums in the market. It’s a very good alternative for growers who want to lengthen the season and satisfy late demand for these types of plums,” Karin Sonneborn, product manager for A.N.A. Chile, said in the statement.

These plants are available exclusively from growers partnered with A.N.A Chile, which manages the license and has given the sublicense for propagation to Univiveros and Viveros El Tambo.
