China opens market to Argentine apples

China and Argentina have signed a series of five bilateral agreements to establish the trade of several key agricultural products, opening the Chinese market to Argentina’s apple exports.

According to a statement from Argentina’s Agricultural Ministry, MINAGRI, the country’s Agriculture Minister Julián Domínguez and the head of China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine signed the agreements on Tuesday in Beijing.

According to the statement, China has now opened its market to Argentine apples, dairy products, beef and barley. China in return can export bamboo and dairy products to Argentina.

“This year has been extraordinary for the formalization of trade agreements … we look to be a trustworthy supplier and open to the world with more added value,” Domínguez said in the statement.

Argentina already does a large amount of trade with China, and according to MINAGRI, is China’s third-largest trade partner for agricultural products behind the United States and Brazil.

For apples Argentina exports mainly to the EU, the U.S. and Brazil.
