Chile: Fedefruta awaits green light on ag labor reform
Chilean grower group Fedefruta is awaiting approval of a labor reform which will cater more to the needs of rural growers.
On Wednesday the government presented corrections to a labor reform which will be voted on next week and which could affect the legal framework which governs labor relations in the agriculture industry.
"We hope we can soon put an end to legal action in the fruit industry following delivery of the corrections to the reform," said Fedefrut president Juan Carolus Brown.
The government had previously committed to passing a bill which adapted to the modern reality of rural living.
"We need a specific regulation considering the fact that fruit growers cannot be bound to a labor law with an urban bias which does not take into account distinctive features of rural life and its workers," Brown said.
