Climate conditions in Mexico’s Rio Baluarte mango growing region have been the best in the last 15 years and have moved forward the flowering of mango trees, local news site Noreste.com reported.

Citing the president of the Río Baluarte association of farmers, Francisco Silva Gómez, the flowering has advanced due to moderate temperatures in the region, something that should also translate into better quality fruit.

Last year’s harvest was marred by rains, which prevented workers from properly finishing the harvest, Gómez added.

Despite the positive outlook for both the quantity and quality of the mango, the industry could still be hit by a saturated export market for mangoes, the report said, which could affect the final selling price. To combat that, the association is looking to improve sales in local markets.
