U.S.-bound mango shipping volumes up 9%
Weekly mango shipping volumes to the U.S. during the week ending June 11Â were 9% higher year-on-year, with Mexico responsible for most of the increase.
The National Mango Board (NMB) said 3,732,731 boxes of the tropical fruit had been shipped to the U.S., up from 3,432,359 boxes last year.
Volume shipped from Mexico was approximately 3,578,770 boxes for a total of 35,089,062 boxes for the season. During the same week last year the Latin American country shipped around 3,251,015 boxes for a total of 41,741,369 boxes.
The Mexican season began in January and will run until October, with a projection of approximately 66 million boxes, according to the NMB.
Guatemala's shipping volumes have surpassed projections this year, currently totaling 3,166,475 - a significant increase from the initial 2.6 million estimate.
The Central American country shipped 52,800 boxes to the U.S. last week.
Meanwhile, weekly shipments from Haiti fell year-on-year, dropping from 182,344 boxes to 101,161 boxes. The Haitian season began in April and will run until September, with a projection of approximately 2.4 million boxes.
