Costa Rica expects China FTA this week
Costa Rica's Foreign Trade Minister Anabel González has told Laprensagrafica.com that a free trade agreement (FTA) with China will likely be signed this week.
The country's banana and pineapple sectors will be the two main beneficiaries from the fruit industry, while according to the CIA World Factbook, Costa Rica's trade with China already represents 14.1% of total exports and 5.1% of imports.
González told Laprensagrafica the FTA agreement was awaiting approval from the Constitutional Court.
On Mar. 24-26 a group of businesspeople from both countries are expected to meet at a summit to celebrate the FTA, while González told the website there are already 150 Chinese businesspeople interested in investing in or buying products from Costa Rica.
