Australia's Barbera Farms in receivership
An Australian tomato, zucchini and capsicum supplier has gone into receivership and is now under control of Ernst & Young, newspaper The Australian Financial Review reported.
The receiver was called in by lender Suncorp Metway, as the Queensland-based family-owned business struggled with debts and pricing, the story reported.
"We worked with the company over an extended period of time to provide support during difficult trading conditions but were at a point where we had to appoint a receiver/manager to determine the best course of action for that company going forward," a Suncorp spokesperson was quoted as saying.
Ernst & Young partner Justin Walsh told Bundaberg News Mail the company had 'significant debts' and the farm would continue to operate, but the receivers would sell the property and its equipment.
Farmonline.com.au reported some workers were owed unpaid superannuation, with financial stress over an ongoing case over the death of a German backpacker.
