Mozambican pineapples approved for European export
Pineapple growers in Mozambique's Muxungué district in Sofala have earned an international certificate to export to European markets, local newspaper Notícias José Ferreira reported.
The certification process was undertaken by German company BCS Öko-Garantie GmbH, concluding the Muxungué pineapples met all the basic requirements.
Notícias José Ferreira heralded the certification as an historical moment for the region's economic and social development, with access to the European Union now available for the district's 500 producers.
The estimated yield of Muxungué is 56,000 metric tons (MT) per year across 3,000 hectares of land.
