Don Limón launches new brand for Mexican strawberries
Hamburg-headquartered Don Limón may have made its name with Latin American limes, but now its presence in Mexico is expanding into a new, softer breed of fruit.
A company spokesperson told www.freshfruitportal.com the group was working with Michoacán-based partner Altex to launch a new product line in strawberries.
In a release Don Limón emphasized its partner was one of the most important producers of frozen and non-frozen strawberries in Mexico.
"This season a new brand is being introduced: VITA MÁS; breaking into the North American market with fresh strawberries," the group said.
"Our supplying capacity is steady and reliable. The produce is checked, certified and packed at origin to secure international quality standards.
"Another inspection is done by Don Limón after arrival in the United States and before loading, to make sure only the freshest fruits are distributed."
The group said the season started in November and goes until February.
"Don Limón however, will be able to supply fresh strawberries until March.
"Don Limón will be able to offer one Poundand two Pound clamshell boxes – with or without. The Main varieties will be Festival, Albion and Camino Real."
Don Limon America VP Diego Morales told www.freshfruitportal.com introducing strawberries into the North American market was only the first step in a broader plan.
"We are working on including more products into our berry division," Morales said.
"We have put a lot of effort into this project and are offering, as usual, through our extended experience here at Don Limón a full supply chain management to this product. This means, making sure the berries get fresh from the field to the table of our consumers.
"Don Limón is doing very well with Mexican produce to the US and Canada, now we want to become even stronger and include a wider product range."
