Argentine union calls for ag emergency declaration
An Argentine fruit workers union has called on the government for assistance in the province of Entre RÃos, following frosts that have damaged several parts of the country, website Unoentrerios.com.ar reported.
Concordia Fruit Workers Union secretary general Alcides Camejo, told the website there had been a total of 11 frosts in his region over recent weeks.
"We are concerned for the damages this phenomenon has done. In the summer we had a drought, then hail, and finished with frosts that fell over the last nights," Camejo was quoted as saying.
"We are requesting a citrus emergency and now are awaiting a meeting with the governor."
Late last week several government delegations met to discuss the problem with fruit unions and associations from Entre Rios and the Corrientes province.
