Quality seal expected for Chilean walnuts in 2012
The Chilean Walnut Commission (ChWC) has announced it will launch a quality seal in 2012 as part of a compliance scheme to bolster exports.
The commission said the seal would provide evidence of labelling on transaction documents, while also proving certain nut characteristics under controlled conditions.
"We want to deliver an item that will be differentiated for the exporter, due to the lack of homogeneity in the export product. This will help position the high quality Chilean walnut abroad," said ChWC CEO Andrés RodrÃguez.
"There has been progress since the formation of the technical committee, with which we are working on the standardization of the points affecting walnut quality, both shelled and without the shell."
