Market situation in the Northern Hemisphere, week 34 — 2011 (Aug. 26)

Apples

In North America, the U.S. market was transitioning from Southern Hemisphere supply to domestic volumes.

In Latin America, good trading levels were observed.

In Northern Europe, domestic fruit availability put Southern Hemisphere supply trading under pressure. The last lots of Chilean Pink Lady apples were expected to be placed during the next few days in the U.K.

In the Middle East, stable prices and sales pace were recorded for both U.S. and Southern Hemisphere apples.

In Asia, markets remained stable in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, registering fair sales activity.

Avocadoes

In North America, Mexican Hass avocadoes were observed to have better eating qualities than Chile's competing product in the U.S.

In Latin America, Peruvian Hass avocadoes were still available in Chilean wholesale markets to complement low domestic Hass volumes.

In Europe, active inventory rotation was seen for Southern Hemisphere supply.

Easy Peelers

In North America, price adjustments were registered for imported clementines on the U.S. East Coast.

In Europe, limited Ellendale availability favored price increases for Southern Hemisphere supply.

In the Middle East, price adjustments were seen for mandarins in Saudi Arabia.

In Asia, slow sales activity was reported in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, while the Japanese market remained stable.

Kiwifruit

In North America, stable market activity continued in the U.S. market, where moderate trading was observed for Southern Hemisphere supply.

In the Middle East, healthy sales pace was reported for Southern Hemisphere lemons.

In Asia, South African volumes were dominanat in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, while Chile was the main supplier in Japan.

Oranges

In North America, moderate trading was registered for Southern Hemisphere supply in the U.S. market.

In Europe, slow sales were reported for larger size fruit.

In the Middle East, improvement was seen for South African Navel oranges due to lower availability of Egyptian Valencias.

In Asia, buyers were focusing their attention on the Midknight variety in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, achieving strong sales pace and high prices due to its optimal eating qualities
