Australian Banana Growers' Council appoints new chairman

The Australian Banana Growers' Council (ABGC) has announced South Johnstone grower Doug Phillips will be its new chairman, following the retirement of Cameron MacKay.

The new chairman thanked Tully grower MacKay for more than a decade of commitment to the council and the industry.

"After 12 years of service to the industry, we say thank you to Mr McKay for his hard work and willingness to see the tasks that come with being chairman done from start to finish," said Phillips.

"Banana growers have a number of issues at the moment and I look forward to addressing these to the best of our ability."

As part of a board shuffle, another Tully grower Paul Johnstone was elected as  vice president, Mullumbimby grower Peter Molenaar returned to the role of treasurer, while Innisfail grower Steve Lizzio - known for his YouTube informational videos in the wake of Cyclone Yasi - is now a board director.
