Greenyard opens two new distribution centers in Germany

Belgium-based food giant Greenyard (Euronext Brussels: GREEN) says it has optimized its footprint in Germany through the opening of two new distribution centers.

It said its fresh business segment had invested significantly in its single largest market over the last two years, opening up one center close to Munich last year and another one in February near Mainz.

Both centers are equipped with the latest technology in terms of ripening, value-add packing, controlled atmosphere storage and service providing opportunities, it said.

They are also strategically positioned with close proximity to both logistical connections as well as Greenyard's food retail clients, according to the company.

As a result of these investments, Greenyard will close its logistical centers in Bremen and Neunkirchen. The company says it intends to transfer as many employees as possible to its other sites within the organization.

"Our mission is to be the most efficient partner of the German fruit and vegetable retailers for a healthier future. This includes delivering fresh fruit and vegetables directly from the field to the customer every day," said Lars Wagener, managing director for Germany.

"Therefore, we need a highly efficient network of distribution centers and excellent employees who support our mission."
