12,000 tons of blueberries expected from Argentina
Three areas in Argentina are expected to produce about 12,000 tons of blueberries in the 2010-11 season, according to the recently formed Argentina Blueberry Committee.
In Tucuman, the harvest is expected to grow 30 percent compared with last season, when it produced 4,400 tons, the group said in a report released last week.
The first harvest occurred in Week 35 in fields with protection from frost and with early varieties such as Emerald, Jewel and Sapphire. In fields without protection from frost, the harvest is expected in Weeks 40 and 41. The peak in Tucuman will occur in Weeks 44 and 45.
In Concordia, the harvest is expected to be 4,500 tons and the peak will occur in Weeks 45 and 46. In Buenos Aires, the harvest will yield about 3,000 tons and the peak will arrive in Weeks 46 and 47, according to estimates.
