Peru's fruit, vegetable exports to top $1.8 billion in 2010
The export of fruits and vegetables from Peru will be $1.8 billion, pushed mainly by the huge increase in exports of table grapes, Carlos Lozada, of the exporters group ADEX, estimated.
All agriculture exports will surpass $2.9 billion, he said, led by table grapes and asparagus, Peruvian newspaper Andina reported.
At the same time, shipments of mango are rising and and citrus has been doing well, he told the newspaper.
He said that work is being done to meet the challenges of the industry, find new markets and learn how to move forward in developing new products.
In the period from January to July this year, exports of fruits and vegetables were $713.7 million, for an increase of 21% over the same period last year. Fruit alone increased 38%, to $343.9 million, the newspaper said.
