Chiquita takes third-quarter loss on lower salad, banana sales
Chiquita Brands International posted an 8% loss in revenue, blamed mostly on lower salad and banana sales, according to the Associated Press.
The company earned $730 million in the three months ended Sept. 30.
Banana sales fell 9% to $431 million because of lower demand and unfavorable exchange rates. Packaged salad sales were hurt by supermarkets selling their private labels, the AP said.
Competitor Del Monte also announced third-quarter losses this week.
