Executives planning new shipping line out of Chile
Key ex-managers of Chile’s largest shipper, CSAV, will join forces with Chilean fruit exporters Rio Blanco and Verfrut to form a new shipping company, local newspaper El Mercurio reported.
Citing sources close to the planning, the report said that Jorge Villagra, former manager of CSAV reefer line and Alberto Dale, another former CSAV executive, have partnered with the exporters to launch United Cargo. The company is still in the planning stages and more details were not available.
United Cargo will be formed with Chilean capital, have its own cargo ships and is expected to focus on fruit exports.
Chile’s shipping volume has shown signs of recovery, and new actors, such as South Korea’s Hanjin Shipping, have targeted South America recently.
