Namibia expects big grape crop due to good weather
Namibia expects a bumper crop of grapes this season because of good weather, local news site The Namibian reported.
High demand in Europe for the high-quality grapes would offset the negative effects of the strengthening of the South African rand, said Andre Vermaak of Capespan, a company that handles harvesting, export and marketing for the Namibia Grape Company, according to the website. He said the company would likely exceed the target of 3.5 million cartons, according to the website.
Jan Mostert of Navico Grape Company said the quality and quantity of grapes are better than last year because of good weather.
Namibian grapes also meet European import specifications, said Leen Droogendijk of D-Quality Survey BV, the website said.
