Chile’s irrigation infrastructure damaged as a result of the February 2010 earthquake has now been fully rebuilt, the country’s ministry of agriculture Minagri said in a statement.

According to the statement the repairs of damages from the natural disaster has cost more than 35 billion Chilean Pesos (US $75.4 million) among 170,000 hectares of productive land, including highway repair..

Having the irrigation infrastructure back online guarantees continued supply of seasonal fruit and vegetables, the statement added.

The repair of the irrigation channels were one of the promises outlined by Chile’s President Sebastián Piñera following the earthquake and his election.
