Argentina’s Mendoza grape harvest cut 20-25% due to rain, hail
The grape harvest from Argentina’s prime grape growing region in Mendoza could see its final harvest tally drop 20-25% due to damage from late frosts, rain and hail, local daily Diario Uno reported.
The grapes harvested near Mendoza are primarily for wine although some fresh format shipments are also made.
Quoting the country’s national wine growers institute (INV for its Spanish initials) the report said that the worse of the damage is in the Valle de Uco, where some 25% of the harvest has been lost due to bad weather.
The prognostic bites at preseason expectations that the 2011 harvest would out pace 2009 and 2010, which according to the article produced smaller yields. Specific harvest figures were not provided.
