Brazilian state exports record lime shipments in January
A Brazilian state’s lime exports have reached a record high of US$439,000 in January, according to the State Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (SEAPA).
Website Todafruta.com.br reported that in four years lime shipping volumes from the south-eastern state of Minas Gerais have doubled, with 286.7 metric tons (MT) recorded in January.
The story reported Netherlands as the largest export destination, buying 93.7% of the limes while Denmark was the second-largest buyer. Minas Gerais is the third-largest Brazilian lime exporter, accounting for 6.8% of sales.
SEAPA superintendent of agricultural economics and policy Paiva Silva, said the average metric ton of lime was worth 94.6% more in 2011 than in 2007. This would be partly due to the high value of the Brazilian currency.
