Vital Berry changes hands
Chilean businesses San José Farms and Algeciras have acquired a further 28.8% stake in Vital Berry Marketing SA, raising their total ownership in the business to 70%.
A release by Vital Berry said the companies' owners Ignacio Del RÃo and Eduardo Elberg bought shares in the Southern Hemisphere's largest blueberry exporter with the goal of reaching consumers more directly.
The release did not reveal how much the transaction was worth, but highlighted the business was expecting US$167 million in sales this season.
The Chilean company's shipments of blueberries have grown at an average annual rate of 32% over the last six years, while it also exports cherries, kiwifruit, figs and frozen berries.
