Drought cuts Bolivian citrus production 25%
Bolivia's northern regions were hit by drought this year with national citrus production declining by 25%, newspaper Diario El Dia reported.
Santa Cruz Horticulture Farmers Association CEO Mario Requinta told the newspaper the drought delayed fruit ripening, leading to a drop in supply and increased prices.
Bolivia's citrus industry doesn't have the same irrigation levels that apply to its peach and apple plantations, while vegetable production has not changed much since last year, the story reported.
Los Negros Farmers Association representative Irineo Copa told Diario El Dia tomato, bean and lettuce production in the region would decrease due to frost.
