NZ to benefit from global blackcurrant shortage

Global blackcurrant prices are expected to double to NZ$2 (US$1.66) due to climatic problems that have affected Eastern European harvests, Radio New Zealand reported.

International Blackcurrant Association president Jim Grierson, told the news agency weather issue could halve the total European harvest and lead to a global shortage.

He said potential prices were positive for New Zealand, which exports around 95% of its crop, the story reported.

New Zealand's next blackcurrant harvest will begin in December.
