Record grape harvest for Brazilian state
The Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul has harvested record grape volumes of 707,200 metric tons (MT) this year, representing a 34.2% rise on last year, website Cronista.com reported.
The Brazilian Wine Institute (Ibravin) attributes the strong volumes to favorable hot and dry weather conditions during the harvest period from January to April and an increase in planting area, the story reported.
Until this season, the state's record production was 634,000MT.
The state accounts for 55% of Brazil's grape production and 90% of its wines, the story reported.
