Peru records 188% South Korea ag export growth
Peru's agricultural exports to South Korea rose 188% year-on-year to US$4.9 million in the first five months of 2011, website Agraria.pe reported.
The statistics released by the Ministry of Agriculture (MINAG) show the Asian nation only accounted for 0.4% of total agricultural exports for the period, but the strong growth is a sign of what could be in store once a free trade agreement (FTA) comes into effect on Aug. 1.
The biggest export was coloring product carmine with 29.8% of shipments, alpaca hair (21%), unroasted coffee (14%), cochineals and similar insects (6.6%) and achiote coloring (6.6%).
MINAG revealed Peru imported US$120,600 worth of agricultural products from South Korea.
