First Peruvian avocado arrivals confirmed in the U.S.
After so much hype surrounding Peru's access to the U.S. avocado market without cold treatment, the first arrivals have been officially confirmed, according to a Peruvain Avocado Commission (PAC) release.
The PAC and the Peruvian Hass Avocado Association (ProHass) marked the occassion with an official ceremony in Los Angeles.
"Peru and the United States have worked hand-in-hand to open this new market which will result in a new supply of Hass avocados for U.S. consumers and retailers," said ProHass chairman Jimmy Bosworth.
"The commission is looking forward to working in a coordinated manner with the other associations that form part of the U.S. Federal Promotion Program for Hass avocados to further strengthen the image and consumption of the product in the U.S. marketplace," added PAC chairman Enrique Camet.
The Peruvian Hass Avocado Producers and Exporters Association expects to ship 500 containers of the fruit to the U.S. this year.
