Argentina: new cold storage facility for Tucuman airport

The Southern Hemisphere's earliest blueberry supplier is about to have a new cold storage facility in its local airport, website Lagaceta.com.ar reported.

The Tucuman Institute of Productive Development (IDEP) announced progress had been made with the installation in northern Argentina, which has the potential to significantly improve supply chain logistics from the region.

IDEP executive director Juan Luis Fernandez told the website all the necessary paperwork for the airport authority had been completed in order to quickly gain access to an air terminal facility.

"Very soon we want to have permanent structures that allows us not only to dispatch blueberries, but also other types of fruit and other products that require air transport," Fernandez was quoted as saying.

"It's opened the game for producers and export companies to be able to trade without any intermediaries."

The facility will have a capacity of 1,000sqm and a carp anteroom of 500sqm to condition the fruit and prepare it for a potential of two flights on the same day.
