Chile: economic minister calls for public-private fruit alliance
Chilean Economic Minister Pablo Longueira has called for a public-private fruit alliance, and confirmed he will be speaking at upcoming networking event FRUITTRADE.
Longueira says the government and industry need to work together to promote fruit consumption and agree on measures to boost the sector's 'dynamism'.
Fedefruta president Antonio Walker welcomed the minister's comments and commitment to the industry.
"His support will be very important for not letting this activity die, which is complex due to the perfect storm it is going through with increases in export and production costs, and a steady decline in the exchange rate," he said
But Walker insisted the difficulties facing the sector were 'transitory' and through alliances it could 'overcome and emerge stronger'.
FRUITTRADE will take place on Sep. 28 and 29 in Santiago.
