Peruvian asparagus exports drop in September
Statistics released by Peruvian market consultancy Inform@cción show Peruvian asparagus exports fell significantly year-on-year in September.
Data for weeks 36, 37, 38 and 39 reveal shipments of the country's iconic vegetable fell 25.6% year-on-year to 11,922 metric tons (MT).
Fresh asparagus exports had a slightly lower fall of 22.1% to 9,851MT, but the conserved product took a 43.97% hit during the period to 1,685MT.
On a more positive note, the country's frozen asparagus exports rose 5.75% year-on-year in September to 386MT.
For the season to date Peru's shipments are only 5% down with volumes of 112,951MT.
