Chile: port union calls for national mid-month strike
Chile's BiobÃo Port Union has called for a complete shutdown of the country's ports on Feb. 14 and 15, website Lasegunda.com reported.
The announcement follows an incident involving 14 who were accused of violating a company's private property during the 27-day strike at the Port of Linquén in 2011.
The union decided to take this action during a recent meeting, which rated a recent strike on Jan. 30 as a 'success', when members demanded tax reimbursements the union claimed were poorly covered.
The union says the mid-February strikes have to do with "the little political will that the government has to generate a social safety net for workers in the ports of Talcahuano and Coquimbo, before the bidding of these terminals".
