Peru continues to expand arable land for avocados and citrus
Peru is expected to gain an extra 20,000 hectares of land devoted to avocados, citrus, blueberries and asparagus this year through private investment,website Peru21.pe reported.
Consultancy Inform@cción president Fernando Cillóniz, believes the last five years has seen comparable growth due to the good reception which Peruvian products such as asparagus, artichokes and mangoes, have received abroad.
Camposol, Danper, Virú and Agrokasa are among the big producer and exporter companies which have acquired land along the Peruvian coast for growing table grapes, avocados, citrus, blueberries and asparagus.
In the last 10 years it's estimated that the price of a hectare of arable land has increased by 15% in Peru.
Peru has three million hectares of arable land of which only 200,000 hectares is cultivated.
